New Beginnings...Closing a Chapter...What’s Next Poppa...

What's up guys,

It has been a few weeks since I have sent out a newsletter and I have missed writing to all of you. First let me say that getting married to my Beautiful Wife has so far been the funnest thing I have ever done, and we are very excited to watch our lives unfold as we discover what it all really means. Each new day seems like the start of something beautiful, and I am amazed at the Peace and Joy that my Wife brings my way! Haley and I are starting a blog to share everything we are learning together in this new journey. It will be written from a His and Her perspective! Our first entry will be in by the end of the week! Let us know what you think!  http://jamesandhaleyjones.blogspot.com/

The last day of my honeymoon I woke up early, and it seemed to me that Jesus wanted to talk to me. I get both nervous and excited when this happens, and as I sat on the Porch at Gorham’s Bluff with my Bride sleeping upstairs He had plenty to say to me. The gist of it was that this was a new season in my life, and there were some things that were going to change. I believe that He told me that I would be writing, which is a definite passion of mine, and that the look of Kairos Kafe and the focus of our business would be different. Coming back home with my new Bride was also a new beginning for Kairos. My wife has her own company (HaHo International Inc.) that consults with small businesses and helps them to be transformed from the inside out. She has taken on Kairos as her top client for the next few months and immediately went about evaluating everything that we do at Kairos and why.  The results were fascinating to me, and really made me excited about the future of Kairos. One thing that we realized, and that I already knew, is that over 70% of our income comes from Katering and Special Events. After analyzing this a bit though I realized that we spend about 80% of our resources, energy, and focus on running the restaurant side of the business. Through this Jesus brought to my attention something I have read for years but never really understood. It’s a John Maxwell quote that says if I will spend 80% of my energies focused on my strengths and only 20% on my weaknesses then I would have something like 500% better results. For me that is a no-brainer!!! After much counsel, prayer, and consideration the Board of Kairos Katering Inc. passed a unanimous decision that going forward we will focus 100% of our efforts on Katering and Special Events. We have all had some mixed feelings about this but Katering has always been what I love to do and I believe we have to do one thing and do it well. I know for some of you this may not be good news, but The Kafe will be available for you to use a Venue, you can book your office parties and Special Events there, and we look forward to serving you better by doing one thing with all of our energies. I look forward to hearing your feedback, and I am so grateful for the years we spent together building relationships around food the current way, and I also look forward to the future with joyful anticipation about what’s coming next.

Yesterday was the last day we did the regular lunch hours in the Kafe. All day I kept thinking maybe I should be sad, but I was actually very humbled and full of joy. We tend to measure success or wealth in dollars and cents. But Jesus reminded me that we most times have our perspective skewed. I may not have made a million dollars running a restaurant, but the lives that came through that place and through the Kafe in Gardendale were lives that were touched in so many ways. The Chief Life being my own. There have been good times and there have been tough times, but through it all the Presence of Jesus has carried us through, challenged us, changed us, and helped place us in His perfect plan for our lives. Kairos Kafe is going to look a little different, but I believe our best years are ahead of us, and with a grateful heart I am looking to Jesus with joy and saying “What’s Next Poppa!” I hope you guys will join me!

God Bless You. Thank You for Supporting Kairos! And have a wonderful week!

James K Jones
