Finding Delicious Goodness...Cream of Potato Soup...Dignity

Kairos Cream of Potato Soup

What’s Up Guys,

I hope your week is starting out beautifully. I am loving this weather. It is the best time of the year to come up with new ideas for Kairos delicious goodness. My Granny, who passed away this year, left me all of her cookbooks and her massive collection of recipes that she put together over her 88 years on the earth. I love reading them and sampling the recipes, but for now it has been very difficult to go read them because I’m still missing her so much. I know it won’t always be that way, but every time I open a cookbook all these little extra recipes fall out, most of them in her handwriting, or it will be a note that is written to me... “J.J. I want to you to try this recipe in your restaurant....” For the last six years she kept a small notepad by her side so that if she saw something on T.V. or read something or remembered something I should make she would jot it down and encourage me to give it a try. I probably have enough of those little notes to keep Kairos stocked for the next 50 years in new ideas. I look forward to trying some of them soon. The best thing at Kairos to warm up with is my Cream of Potato Soup. I love this recipe because it is one of the first ones added to the menu way back there in 2006. It’s made from scratch, full of delicious goodness, and the perfect pick me up for a cold day. It’ s served as a cup or a bowl or you can get it loaded with bacon and cheddar. That’s the good stuff. Come and see me this week. The Coupon is “bring a friend to Kairos Week”... which translates into buy one get one half off!

The Kountry Buffet Menu will be posted daily on our Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/KairosKafe) and all the Specials for Birmingham and Gardendale are posted there and on our website (www.KairosKafe.com)

Since the time I was a small child I have always been fascinated with the way that we go about electing our Leaders every four years. The first one that I followed was the 1980 debates between Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. I was always a History fan in school and I loved American History. I still do. I believe that our system and a government by the people for the people is one of the neatest things that has ever taken place. That being said I am both astonished and aggravated at the atmosphere that has grown more and more hostile over the years. These thoughts are not political thoughts, either. I learned early on in business that my opinions about Politics and Sports need to be kept outside of my serving the community.

But as a follower of Jesus I can have some thoughts about the way that we treat each other and our candidates for office. And for the record I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I am 100% Independent. The thing that bugs me is the way that we go about “demonizing” others that don’t hold our particular views or agree with every position that we hold. Is it okay to disagree? Yes. Is it okay to say I don’t like a particular policy? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, no matter who is elected, is Jesus still the King of my life? YES. Does Jesus care about the way I treat people? YES. Actually when I read His words I find out that the way I treat people is of paramount importance to Him.  Many years ago I thought that the way to disagree, even the “Godly” way to disagree, was to jump on Bandwagons and demonize those who don’t agree. But in the past ten years Jesus has done a hard work in me convincing me not to try to demonize any person. Can I disagree. Yes! Can I stand up for what I believe in? Yes! Should I demonize people? Even politicians that don't share my views? No. They are people. Human beings created in the image of God. If they are wrong it's His job to fix them, not mine. Jesus has taught me, and he says it over and over again in the scriptures, to love people. My neighbor. He didn't say love them only if I agree with them. My neighbor includes all people from all walks of life, religions, ideologies, political parties, etc. To love others doesn't mean to agree with them. Jesus loved me when I was hostile towards Him. Should I not show that same love to others that are hostile towards me? I know this won't be popular but I needed to get it off my chest. The King of Kings is also The President of Presidents. I need to remember who my King is.

Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other, treating each other with dignity and honor. (James 3:17 THE MESSAGE)

God Bless you. Thank you for supporting Kairos, and have a wonderful week!
