Sweet Chili Chicken… Strawberry “Tall” Cake… Father to the Fatherless

What’s up Kairos Fans,

It’s been another awesome week at Kairos Kafe. The renovations for Gardendale are well under way and we can’t wait to get open! Last week we had a blast at the Hotstrings Bluegrass Festival to benefit The Foundry. It was so good to see so many of you there, and to see so many friends. We also Katered a very Special Wedding, so the week has been a full of those “special” moments in time that you guys allow us to share.

For the Special this week I have come up with a new sauce for the Chicken Tenderloins. It’s a sweet chili sauce and you can get it on the grilled chicken tenderloins or on the chicken toes… it has just a little bit of heat countered by just a little bit of sweet, and it tastes fantastic on the Chicken! Let me know what you think about it! The dessert is Kairos Strawberry “Tall” Cake. It was requested by one of you so I hope you enjoy it! The Fish is fresh Tilapia, grilled with lemon butter sauce and green onions, and the Veggie is Sautéed Broccoli, another special request. This is the time of year for Soups, and I love coming up with new ones… one of the soups this week is Red Bean Stew, a delicious concoction of red beans, pork loin, and a few other things… I hope you enjoy it! I am always attempting to come up with new ideas for Soups so if any of you guys have any ideas for some good ones shoot them my way!

Last week we went to see the Courageous Movie... If you haven’t watched it then I highly recommend it. The main theme of the movie was the effects of Fatherlessness in our world… something neat that struck me though is that it even had some focus on kids that grow up in the house with their Fathers present… but not really fulfilling their God-Given role as the Man of the House…

Many years ago I watched a secular documentary about these elephants in Africa… The parks over there were having some problems with overcrowding so they moved a bunch of the smaller elephants to another park to take care of the problem of overcrowding. Some time later they had another problem though because these Teenager Elephants started going nuts! They would attack cars, people, and the Rhinos in the park… they just went ballistic… the park people didn’t know what to do, so they killed what seemed to be the ring leader and that still didn’t work, so someone had the bright idea to move in one of the older male elephants… Once that happened all the violence stopped because the teenage elephants started following the Big Daddy Elephant around…

I used to be one of those rebellious teenage elephants, running wild, doing what I wanted to do and I ended up suffering the consequences for all the sins of my Youth. When I came to Jesus and allowed Him to change my heart I began going through the process of learning why I acted the way I did, and one of the main things was because I was unfathered.  I’m not sharing this to disrespect my Dad in any way. We all make mistakes and have to learn from them, and I love my Dad, and we have a great relationship now, but that wasn’t always the case… most of that was on me anyways. But it is what it is and when I came to Jesus I was amazed at the promise that He would be a Father to the Fatherless… I really latched onto that promise and in my mind I made it this mystical, religious thing… God said He was my Father… and He is, but I was about to find out that a lot of God’s ways are very practical, and He uses other people as his hands and feet to handle His business in this world.

After watching the movie last week I woke up the next morning reminded of the fact that God truly is a Father to the Fatherless when we allow Him to be... in 1998 He put Steve Longenecker in my life to be a Mentor, a Friend, a Counselor, a Helper to help me reach my God-given potential and see my Dreams come true, a man who is not afraid to get all up in my business and challenge me when I need it, and above all, a man who called me out of my immature boyhood into being a Man of God! It is because of his influence in my life, and sometimes his tough love, that I have grown to the place where I can be the Man that I am today and for that I will be eternally grateful to him. Thank You Steve, and thank you to all you other men out there who are not afraid to stand up and be Daddies!

God Bless You! Thank You for Supporting Kairos, and have a wonderful week!

James K Jones
