Squash Kasserole…Cheeseburger Ziti…Building Relationships…

What’s up Kairos Fans,

It has been a fun week at Kairos as we are preparing to work out the logistics of actually having two places to operate. We have a few kinks, but overall the process is going to be one that will fine tune both operations and make the current Kairos Kafe a whole lot more efficient. The size of the kitchen has all of us very excited because we are cramped up tight in our current location. We are also excited about opening the Kairos experience up to a whole new group of people. It’s gonna be awesome!

Speaking of awesome things... this week is bring a friend to Kairos Week, on me! We have made some adjustments on the coupon and added a “Dine in only” clause to it because the idea is to promote our mission statement… “building relationships around food…” by treating a friend or co-worker or someone you are getting to know to lunch at Kairos. I hope to see you in here this week!

The Special is the Handmade Black Angus Hamburger Steak with creamy tomato gravy and onion strings. This is a lunch that is sure to please and hit all the right spots. I love to eat this with the Lenora’s Company Potatoes and Grice’s Green Beans. The veggie is Kairos Squash Kasserole, one of our most popular sides. I remember when we first opened Kairos I was reading something that Paula Deen wrote about Squash Casseroles… she said that every Southern Cook should have a great recipe for it and at the time I thought that was odd because I didn’t even like Squash Casserole… too mushy for me… but then her comment bothered me because I specialize in Southern Cuisine, so I went on a quest to create the ultimate Squash Kasserole that was special enough to have the Kairos name attached to it… after experimenting with several recipes, including Paula’s and my Grandmother’s, I came up with one that I believe is stellar (and its not mushy). But, the proof is in the pudding, not in the recipe, so I will let you guys decide. The Peanut Butter Kobbler continues to get two thumbs ups from everyone who tries it so that will be the dessert this week, and the Kwick Hitter Menu is featuring Cheeseburger Ziti, Poppyseed Chicken Kasserole, and Momma’s Cheesy Chicken Ziti. I hope to see you this week!

This week I have had to do a lot of reflecting on how important relationships are and how much I need other people in my life. I have always been the type that likes my alone time, and I think that is okay as long as I am spending time with other people and staying connected on many different levels. At times it was and is a challenge for me because I actually enjoy being by myself. But, I have learned that it is dangerous for me to isolate myself from other people and healthy relationships.

Part of that, in my opinion, is because that’s the way I was created. I was created, By God, to have not only a relationship with Him, but also to have a relationship with others. When I isolate myself I go against my God-given nature and I will not grow or really learn a whole lot. I find myself becoming stagnant when I am not in relationships with others. He didn’t create us to be isolated from each other, He created us to be connected to each other.

Being in a relationship with Jesus also includes being in a relationship with other people. This is one of my favorite sayings I’ve heard: “I don’t have to go into a Church Building to have a relationship with God! I can watch preaching on T.V.!!
The part about going into a building is true. God is everywhere. He is not confined to the four walls of any church, but He is in the midst of His people when they are in relationship with one another. Also, going to Church is so much more than listening to a Preacher speak and then leaving. Being connected to a group of people has changed my life. I have also found that I am much happier and content when I am building relationships with others. For me, Grace & Truth Church is one of the places that I connect. I am also connected at Kairos Kafe with my staff and with my customers. Our mission statement is actually “building relationships around food”. I am also connected with friends and family, at The Foundry, and when I write these e-mails every week I am spending time with you guys. It doesn’t have to be a religious thing, but I have found that I do have to make an effort. And it continues to impact not only my life but also the lives of everyone I am connected to. I think that is a beautiful thing.

May we all become a people that can embrace the importance of connecting with positive influences, disconnecting from negative influences, and staying connected as we follow the plan of God for our lives.

God Bless You! Thank you for supporting Kairos, and have a wonderful week!
