Coconut Delicious Goodness... Free Concert...Living from the heart that Jesus gave me...

What’s up Kairos Fans,

Last week was a very remarkable week. This will be our fifth Spring Break week at Kairos Kafe. Typically, most restaurants are empty during this time... but here at Kairos we had a full house everyday! Thank you so much for being a part of our success!

This coming Thursday we will be sponsoring a Free Concert here at Kairos Kafe. Maybe you have heard of Mitch McVicker? He is coming through Birmingham on his “Always Believe Tour”. If you remember Rich Mullins, Mitch was in his band. We are excited about it and we want all of you guys to come... It’s gonna be an awesome night! The most exciting part for me though is that our very own “Redemption Row” will be opening for Mitch. I am so proud of these guys for the way they are pursuing their music with such passion...

The Concert is 100% Free. There is no catch. We will be opening Kairos Kafe at 5:00 for a limited “Concert” Menu. Check that out on our Blog or Facebook page.

To all of our Gardendale Fans that are curious about getting to know what we are all about, I think this would be an awesome night to bring out the whole family. If you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail.

The Special for this week is one of my top favorites... Mee-Maw’s Chicken and Dressing... We take her original recipe for Cornbread Dressing and Load it with tender pieces of grilled Chicken and then smother it in country style gravy. The Ultimate Comfort Food! The Fish is fresh grilled Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Butter Sauce, Capers, and Sundried tomatoes...

The one that has me really excited though is the Dessert Special. Every now and then I mess around with a recipe or try a different spin on an old one... sometimes I come up with something good... sometimes it doesn’t work out at all... but you never know if you don’t try stuff. The Coconut Kobbler though, is definitely a winner. The taste of it is unlike anything I have ever put in my mouth! (And I’m not even a coconut fan!) I can’t seem to make enough of it... you guys are just demolishing it! :O)-

What really makes me think though is the way that I came up with this recipe... I am not really a pie making kind of person. Granted, I love pies and would love to eat yours, but when it comes to making them it’s just not my favorite thing to do. A few years ago I developed several pie recipes and I got a lot of good responses... but the truth is I can’t even cut a pie! I had to get Lenora to do it for me.

I developed a Coconut Cream Pie that all of you loved but I have shied away from making only because it’s just not my passion... I have had several requests for it though, so last week I thought “Why couldn’t I put that same recipe in a Kobbler??” I did. And the results were fantastic!

I learned a lesson through all that... If I do what God created me to do then not only will I be blessed, but so will other folks. I used to think that certain things I was passionate about were just things I was interested in, but as I get older I realize that God created me with certain passions in order to fulfill His will for my life. When I live from the heart that Jesus gave me then life is authentic and rewarding... when I’m not doing that it seems hard and aggravating...

Why was I trying to make pies in the first place? Because whenever people came in here that used to eat at Ollie’s all they talked about were the pies... so I thought maybe I needed to be like Mr. Ollie. But guess what I do love to make?? I love Kobbler’s of all kinds and can come up with neat and delicious recipes that all of you go nuts over... so that’s what I am going to stick with!

You may think it is silly for me to be talking about recipes and such, but I have found out that God cares about every detail of my life, and He wants to transform every area. It intrigues me that for the most part I have always tended to over-spiritualize Church and under-spiritualize my Work...

Jesus has taught me that our work is just as Spiritual as the functions we have at Church... for instance, God created me to be a Chef, and he created my Mentor to be a Pastor. Is he any more spiritual than me? If I think that is the truth then I’m gonna want to be the preacher... but that’s not what I was created to do... Or, what if he decided he wanted to be the Chef?? It wouldn’t work! The results would be a lot different... people wouldn’t enjoy the service on Sunday...and the Kairos fans may stop being fans :O)-

May we all be a people who will embrace our passions and live the life that God created us to live! Thanks so much for your support of Kairos! God Bless you and have an awesome week!
