Granny's Chicken & Dumplings...Lemon Dreams...and El Shaddai...

What’s up Kairos Fans,

It has been an incredible week here at Kairos! I hope you guys are missing getting my e-mails directly forwarded to you. Hopefully we will have it all fixed up by next week. We are in the process of changing all of our website and e-mail stuff over to a better provider so that’s what is going on.

The good news though is that going forward it will be much easier to send the weekly e-mail, and you will also be able to sign up to receive it on the website. I am excited because a good friend of mine, and technical genius, Tim Busbee has taken over all the media stuff for Kairos Kafe and Kairos Katering. So be looking for a new Kairos Katering website and one that’s just for Kairos Kafe. Oh, and he’s come up with an awesome logo too! It will all be unveiled very soon!

I am very excited about the Special this week. You may remember I told you that I went over to Atlanta a few weeks ago and asked my 87 year old Grandmother to teach me how to make her Chicken and Dumplings... She gave me the entire lowdown on what makes them good, and then I added a few touches of my own, and I am proud to report that everyone who had them thought they were awesome! I can’t wait for you guys to try them.

The Greek Style Tilapia has continued to wow the folks, so I don’t want to mess up a good thing...that’ll be the fish. The Southern Fried Broccoli also continues to cause such a buzz that I don’t want to change that either.

I have a new dessert to show you though. It is called Lemon Dream Kobbler and it has an interesting story behind it. A few weeks ago, my new office assistant Corinna started a Katering order for one of our regular customers... I actually finished the order and the lady said “I want to try your Lemon Kobbler for Dessert” ... my reply was “I’m sorry, I don’t know what that is...”

“Well, the girl that was helping me told me about it and it sounds delicious!” She said.

“I am so sorry Ma’am. I have no idea what she is talking about....”

She thought it was funny, and we discussed the possibilities of making a Lemon Kobbler... so she ordered the Peach Kobbler. I went to talk to Corinna, and after jokingly asking her if she wanted to be drug tested now or later she replied:

“James! You are not gonna believe this, but last night I had a dream that you made up a Lemon Kobbler, and it must have been stuck in my mind!”

Nice.

Well, thank you to Miss Corinna because I played around with the filling that I make for the Luscious Lemon Cake and Cupcakes, and the results were absolutely magnificent! I have a sneaky feeling that I would have never come up with that one on my own so that’s why we are calling it Lemon “Dream” Kobbler. I can’t wait to see what you guys think about it!

The last several weeks have been filled with many lessons about Leading and following the plan that God has for my life. The Gardendale Kairos Kafe project has taken on so much momentum that it’s almost happening on its own without much effort! It is an amazing thing to be a part of something that is so spectacular... it brings tears to my eyes just to think about it...

Five years ago when we were in the process of starting the original Kairos Kafe this was not the case at all... I was scared out my mind, most of the time paralyzed by fear, and on our opening day instead of being excited I felt like throwing up...

I have learned a lot since then and I think the most crucial thing is that I am not in control... its neat the way that sometimes I call myself praying, but really what I am doing is telling God what to do... “Here is my plan God, now you make this and that happen...”

I recently had an experience where it seemed like He spoke to me and said “James, I’m tired of you telling me what to do... instead you need to give up trying to control the situation, allow ME to handle it, and then trust me to tell you how I want you to participate.”

Wow! That changed my whole perspective on the way I communicate with God and it also took a huge load off of me... with this new Kairos Venture I am learning to allow Jesus to be the one handling business, and how to do what He tells me when He tells me... its so much easier when the project belongs to the God who is more than enough... Amazing Grace Indeed!

May we all be a people who will surrender control of our lives to Jesus and allow Him to do his awesome work through us as we participate in His Plan for our lives! Apart from Him we can do nothing of significant value anyways.

Thanks so much for supporting Kairos! God Bless you and have a momentous week!

James K Jones
