What’s up Guys,
Just a heads up for all of you Kairos Fans
Kairos Kafe will be closed Labor Day Weekend:
Saturday September 4th thru Monday September 6th.We will reopen on Tuesday September 7th at 10:30 a.m. Have a safe & happy holiday.
The Specials this week seemed to go over well. I was especially fond of the Tomato Kobbler that we ran as a Veggie special. If you would like the recipe for it, click on the link below. You can also watch me prepare it if you click on the Video.

I have been a student of John Maxwell’s material almost as long as Kairos Kafe has been in business. I have learned so much from him that I named a dish on the menu after him, Maxwell’s Catfish Nuggets (buttermilk battered, deep fried Fresh Catfish Nuggets smothered in Lemon Butter Sauce with Capers...they received two thumbs up from our Birmingham News Review)
John Maxwell is most recognized for one of his first books, the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. If you’ve never read it then I highly recommend it.
One of the Laws is called the Law of Reproduction. The gist of it is that if I work with people and practice the other healthy laws of Leadership, then at some point I will reproduce who I am in those that I am leading. It doesn’t mean that I make them just like me, rather it means that I have influenced them to the point that they begin to take on some of my characteristics.
The Veggie Special for next week is Southern Fried Onion Strings that were created by none other than our very own Branden McIntosh. I have personally been working with him for many years and now he is learning to look at food the way I do, and he’s having a blast trying out new ways to push the boundaries.
For me, that is the law of reproduction taking place at Kairos Kafe, and I look forward to seeing that take place more and more as we continue to grow.
Oh, and you’ve gotta try the onion strings. They are absolutely delicious. We put onion rings on some of our sandwiches and recently Branden made me some of his Onion Strings to go on my sandwich. I immediately noted that the flavor was fantastic and the texture of them seemed easier to eat than your regular onion ring, of which I am a huge fan. Have you ever bit into a traditional onion ring and had part of it slip out of its crusty shell and slide into your mouth? I hate it when that happens... well, with Branden’s Kreation you never have to worry about that happening.
The Soup this week is a savory blend of cream of potato and bacon...two things that go together like honey and mustard. Mmmmm... The Fish is a blast from Kairos past: Grilled Salmon with a Strawberry glaze that is infused with the delicious goodness of Honey.
The Dessert Special does not want to be out done by the tasty fish, so it is our original recipe for Strawberry Kobbler that is sure to please. I hope that you will take advantage of the Coupon this week which will be for a free dessert.
This past week has been one of the most trying for me in recent history. It has seemed like that if there was a way for something to malfunction or go wrong, then it had to happen this week. At one point I was ready to pull my hair out of my head. I believe that if we make mistakes then it is important to learn from our mistakes and move forward. I think that is a part of being human and one of the facts of life.
When I do mess up I can always console myself with this fact and try to learn something. What really frustrates me though is when you have made no recognizable errors and still everything seems to go wrong...Sometimes life just comes at you and things happen, just like that old 80’s bumper sticker used to say...
What do we do then? If I am being honest then I just pout or “mope” as my Mee-Maw used to say. It was interesting this week though when I was moping that a scripture came to my mind...
“Count it all joy when you are going through all types of trials and temptations because you know that the testing of your faith makes you into a more patient person. But let Patience have her perfect work in your heart so that you can be whole and complete, lacking no good thing” (The Book of James paraphrased into my own thoughts)
It is so hard to “count it all joy” when you want to scream. But, when I decide to do it God’s way instead of my way then it seems like something miraculous happens for me just over the horizon. I think I find it hard to count it all joy because sometimes I don’t have a good definition of what true joy really is...
I was reminded of that this week when I was led to read something that I wrote for a Sunday School Lesson many years ago. I want to leave you guys with that. I am headed to Phenix City to spend time with family and have three days of absolutely nothing to do except relax....
God Bless You and have a safe and wonderful Labor Day Weekend!!!

THE JOY OF THE LORD, WHICH IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, IS THE CALMNESS YOU’VE GOT ON THE INSIDE, IN THE INNER MAN. THIS INNER JOY IS THERE ON THE INSIDE WHEN EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT, AND THAT SAME CALM DELIGHT IS THERE WHEN THINGS AREN’T GOING SO GREAT (THE CIRCUMSTANCES OR SITUATIONS THAT SURROUND YOU).
IT’S ALWAYS THERE, BUT IT IS UP TO US TO YIELD TO IT. WHEN WE YIELD TO IT, THEN WE ARE WALKING IN THE SPIRIT.
IT DOESN’T TAKE MUCH FOR SOMEONE TO GET EXCITED, AND BE HAPPY, AND REJOICE, WHEN EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT! IT’S EASY FOR US TO BE JOYFUL WHEN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK GOOD.
WHEN YOUR BUSINESS IS MAKING MONEY AND YOUR KIDS ARE ACTING RIGHT, AND YOU’VE GOT A VACATION COMING UP, IS IT REALLY A PROBLEM TO BE HAPPY AND UPBEAT?
EXAMPLE: YOU WAKE UP FEELING GOOD. IT’S A BRIGHT SPRING MORNING. YOU LOOK OUT THE WINDOW & THE SUN IS SHINING, & THE BIRDS ARE SINGING, & THE BEES ARE BUZZING, ETC. WOW! WHAT A GREAT DAY! YOU “FEEL” GOOD!
YOU’VE GOT THE DAY OFF BECAUSE ITS SATURDAY, & YOU’VE GOT THE WHOLE DAY AHEAD OF YOU WITH NOTHING TO DO, ALL THE CHORES ARE DONE, ALL YOUR WORK IS CAUGHT UP, ETC. ALL YOUR BILLS ARE PAID!
YOU DON’T HAVE ANY CARES! YOU’RE GONNA GET TO LAY AROUND THE HOUSE ALL DAY AND DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO! A BEAUTIFUL DAY IS AHEAD OF YOU. WOW! JOY!
OKAY, WHEN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK LIKE THIS, IS IT HARD TO BE HAPPY? NO, IT’S NO PROBLEM TO BE JOYFUL, UPBEAT, AND HAPPY WHEN THINGS ARE GOING THIS GOOD!
BUT, WHERE THE JOY OF THE LORD IS GONNA BE MANIFESTED, WHERE IT’S REALLY GONNA BE SEEN, IS WHEN CIRCUMSTANCES AREN’T LIKE THAT. THE JOY OF THE LORD, WHICH IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, IS MANIFESTED WHEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES AREN’T GOOD.
WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND IT’S NOT A NICE SPRING MORNING. IT’S A DARK, FREEZING COLD WINTER MORNING. AND YOU DO HAVE TO GO TO WORK. AND YOU DON’T “FEEL” GOOD! YOUR BODY SAYS “CALL IN SICK!” BUT YOU KNOW THAT YOU AREN’T SICK. YOU JUST HAVE A CASE OF THE MONDAY MORNING BLUES.
WELL, NOW YOU’VE GOT A CHOICE TO MAKE. YOU DON’T FEEL GOOD AND YOU WISH YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO GO TO WORK, BUT YOU KNOW THAT YOU’VE GOTTA GO TO WORK BECAUSE YOUR BILLS ARE BEHIND AND YOU CAN’T AFFORD A DAY OFF. SO NOW THERE’S ALL THIS PRESSURE COMING AT YOU! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? HOW ARE YOU GONNA ACT NOW, WITH THESE CIRCUMSTANCES?
DO CIRCUMSTANCES DETERMINE YOUR CHEERFULNESS? DO CIRCUMSTANCES DETERMINE YOUR CALM DELIGHT? BE HONEST. IF THAT’S TRUE, THEN WHAT YOU HAVE IS NOT THE JOY OF THE LORD (WHICH IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT)
THE FRUIT OF JOY IS NOT BEING MANIFESTED IN YOUR LIFE IF IT’S DEPENDANT ON CIRCUMSTANCES. IF YOUR JOY IS DEPENDANT ON CIRCUMSTANCES THEN YOU ARE JUST PLAIN HAPPY.
THE FRUIT OF JOY IS A CALM DELIGHT WHICH OUTWARD CIRCUMSTANCES CAN’T TAKE AWAY! NOW YOU CAN ALLOW CIRCUMSTANCES TO TAKE IT AWAY. YOU CAN TURN LOOSE OF THIS JOY, BUT CIRCUMSTANCES CANNOT TAKE THE JOY OF THE LORD AWAY, CIRCUMSTANCES CANNOT TAKE THAT JOY OF YOUR SPIRIT AWAY.
WHY NOT?? BECAUSE CIRCUMSTANCES DIDN’T PUT IT THERE. CIRCUMSTANCES DIDN’T PRODUCE THAT JOY!
THIS JOY IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. CIRCUMSTANCES OR SURROUNDINGS DID NOT PUT THAT “JOY” IN ME, SO CIRCUMSTANCES OR SURROUNDINGS CAN’T TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME! IT’S A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT! IT COMES FROM WITHIN!
THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH. WHEN WE LAY OUR JOY DOWN, WE LAY OUR STRENGTH DOWN. AND WE NEED OUR STRENGTH (OUR JOY) A WHOLE LOT MORE WHEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE NOT GOOD, BECAUSE IF WE DON’T HAVE OUR STRENGTH, WE’LL FALL INTO A PIT OF DESPAIR, AND THAT’S A DARK PLACE TO BE. SO, WHEN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK BLEAK, THAT’S NOT THE TIME TO LET GO OF OUR JOY! THAT’S THE TIME TO HOLD ON TO IT TIGHTLY! THAT’S WHEN WE VITALLY NEED THE JOY OF THE LORD!
