What’s up Kairos Fans,
We are gearing up here at Kairos for our Mother’s Day Celebration coming up next Sunday, May 9th. I love to do special occasions in the Kafe because it brings home the meaning of Kairos “...a special time...” I am thankful that you guys choose us for your special moments throughout the year!
I believe the menu is a stellar one, and I am learning to thoroughly enjoy serving buffet style because then everyone can taste a little bit of everything if they want to...
We have chosen to start with Norma’s Mixed Green Salad: Romaine Lettuce, Mixed Greens, Grape Tomatoes, Red Onions, Bell Peppers, Mandarin Oranges... and a few other things... Norma is my Momma, so it’s only fitting that I should serve her salad. She also asked for the Potato Salad (which is actually her recipe)...
The Broccoli Salad is always a hit, and I can’t wait for you guys to check out the Watermelon-Tomato Salad because it is one of my favorite recipes. (It’s also the Veggie this week, and I plan on making it on Fox 6 Wednesday morning)
The Mother’s Day Buffet will also be packed with all your other favorites like Chicken Florentine, Hamburger Steak with Tomato Gravy, Glazed Ham, and plenty of delicious sides and scrumptious desserts. Everything you need to make Mom feel special on her day! Make sure you get your reservations secured early. This one is always a sell out event!
The Specials this week are also tantalizing... grilled fresh steelhead Salmon topped with a fresh pineapple salsa...Black Bean Soup...Poppyseed Chicken Kasserole, and our Cookies n Cream Cake. I hope you will enjoy them!
Last night I had the opportunity to go out to Donaldson Correctional Facility and spend some time with the guys in the Honor Dorm. It is always a meaningful time for me because I used to live there and actually helped start the very first Honor Dorm in 1998. The Honor Dorm was designed to help inmates make positive changes in their lives by offering classes that teach them vital thinking/life skills, as well as spiritual direction.
When I used to go in, the guys would always tell me that they were proud of me for doing well because it gave them hope and showed society and their families that change is possible. Later, when we opened Kairos, they would call me “Mr. Kairos Kafe”
Last night, I learned that I had a new nickname... “Mr. Green Bean Casserole” because of a meal I helped with during the Christmas Season. I made Kairos Green Bean Kasserole and they loved it so much that they are still talking about it almost 6 months later. Now that made me feel great, and I hope for an opportunity to feed them again soon!
It struck me that cooking for people is an awesome vehicle that we can use to connect with people, build relationships, and show people that we love them. I am determined to find some more folks to cook for in the coming months, and whatever your special skills are, I hope you will do that for people, too!
God Bless You and have a wonderful week!
